Amnesty International believes that detention is a serious action against an individual, which should be limited as much as possible. There should be strong reasons for a person to be exposed to such a move.
- Regular liberty, like putting someone in prison-like institutions, are measures used against persons who are suspected of or who have committed a crime.Applying for asylum is a human right and to get discounts on their application for asylum is not a crime, says Beate Ekeløve-Slydal, Adviser at Amnesty International in Norway.
- Why should not a person subject to detention only to have been refused asylum. It should be defined to apply to persons who have committed offenses.
